Andrzej Chyra

Andrzej Chyra is a multi-talented Polish film and theatre actor, with over sixty film credits to his name, who has collaborated with some of Poland’s most prominent filmmakers. He studied acting and directing at the Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Theatre School in Warsaw. Since his acting debut in 1993, he has appeared in both large international productions and independent art projects including: his critically acclaimed lead performance in Krzysztof Krauze’s THE DEBT; as ‘Adam’ in Malgorzata Szumowska’s IN THE NAME OF; ‘Lucek’ in THE COLLECTOR which was directed by Feliks Falk, and for which Andrzej won Best Actor at the Polish Film Awards; the part of ‘Adas Miauczynski’ in WE’RE ALL CHRISTS; as ‘Stanislaw’ in BEYOND WORDS; ‘Miroslaw Milewski’ in LEAVE NO TRACES; and playing the part of ‘Piotr Dmochowski’ in Jan P. Matuszynski’s THE LAST FAMILY. He has worked extensively in theatre over the course of his career, and performed in plays by Jerzy Grzegorzewski; Agnieszka Glińska; Grzegorz Jarzyna; and Krzysztof Warlikowski. Andrzej has appeared in leading roles at the Odéon theatre in Paris alongside Isabelle Huppert on two occasions. Since 2008, he has been a member of the Nowy Teatr ensemble in Warsaw, and in 2019, he received the Zbigniew Cybulski lifetime achievement award. Andrzej is also a highly regarded theatre and opera director, and at the request of the International Theatre Festival in Malta he staged a production of THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN, for which he was awarded the Konrad Swinarski Award.
