Carloto is a Portuguese actor, who was born in Paris. He has starred in many popular Portuguese television series, films, and on stage. He studied at EPTC in Cascais, and at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Los Angeles. His diverse and varied screen work has included: Miguel Gomes’ “Tabu”, which won both the Silver Bear and the Fipresci award at Berlinale; Eugène Green’s “How Fernando Pessoa Saved Portugal”; João Salaviza’s short-film “Arena”, which won the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film at Cannes; “Lines of Wellington” by Valeria Sarmiento; and co-starring in Ira Sach’s “Frankie”, which was in the Official Selection this year at Cannes. Recently, he received widespread praise for his role as the title character in “Diamantino”, which was directed by Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt, and which won the Critics' Week Grand Prize at Cannes, and also earned Carloto the Best Actor Award at this year’s Golden Globes Awards in Portugal. Upcoming projects include the films “Luz nos Trópicos” by Paula Gaitán, and “Campo de Sangue” by João Mário Grilo.
